In addition to our annual online catch-up, a number of birthday celebrations were held around Australia.
NSW – A dinner was organised in Sydney by Glen Wheeler at the Munich Brauhaus on the Rocks.
Queensland – On Friday, 20 September, we gathered at the Brisbane German Club to celebrate Alexander von Humboldt’s birthday. Despite the challenge of finding a date that suited everyone, eight of us were able to join. The night began in the Club’s ‘Festhalle’ where the sounds of Oktoberfest music overshadowed our conversations so we moved to the quieter ‘Biergarten’ outside, enjoying the fresh air and the relaxed atmosphere. The photo shows on the left side of the table Kathy Andrews and her daughter Emma, joined by Nicki and Peter O’Donoghue, along with Lesley Lluka at the back. On the other side Thomas Haselhorst, Pat, and Klaus Bremhorst. Unfortunately, Craig and Nikki Williams, Rob Robson, Ralph Dietzgen, and Michael Netzel were unable to attend and sent their apologies.
Victoria – The Victorian AAvH members celebrated the birthday of Alexander von Humboldt over dinner at University House, The University of Melbourne on the 18th September 2024. Those in attendance were (clockwise from bottom left) Robin Hill and Jiami Zhang, Jill and Trevor Finlayson, Gabrielle McMullen, Michael Pearce SC (Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Germany, Melbourne), Nilmini Wickramasinghe and Sarah Turpin-Nolan. Table discussions were warm and reminiscing of our memories, past, present and future, in Germany during our Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung supported stays and our upcoming AAvH Colloquium (February 2025).
South Australia – A dinner was held for South Australian members.
Tasmania – A lunch was held for members at the University of Tasmania Club in Hobart. Left to right: Nathan Kilah, Jeff Malpas, Peter Jarvis
