In celebration of the birthdate of Alexander von Humboldt in September, Queensland-based Humboldtians and their families gathered on Tuesday, 6 September 2011, at the Brisbane German Club. The club exists since 1883 and used to be called Brisbane Deutscher Turnverein. Nowadays, it is a wonderful place to enjoy a wide selection of excellent German beers and hearty German meals including their famous over-sized pork knuckle. This year, we had a number of new Queensland Humboldtians join our dinner, and with 26 people we sat at a table in the great hall, where we got to enjoy live entertainment by the German Club choir. Our newest Feodor-Lynen Fellow from Germany, Holger Schuhmann (third on the right), was joined by long-term members of the Association, including David Teakle, Ralph Dietzgen, Klaus Bremhorst (fourth on the left), Peter ODonoghue (first on the left), and Peter Gresshoff (fourth on the right). It was a most enjoyable gathering and I would like to thank everyone who attended for making it a great success.
