In celebration of the birthdate of Alexander von Humboldt in September, Queensland-based Humboldtians and their families gathered on Thursday, 6 September 2012, at the Black Forest Restaurant in Highgate Hill, Brisbane. This small family restaurant offers a wide selection of excellent German beers, hearty German meals, and homemade Black Forest Cake, Strudel and Stollen. The German-born chef takes pride in serving traditional German food including mouth-watering Bavarian sausages, an over-sized pork knuckle, and his signature dish oven-roasted duck with red cabbage. This year, we welcomed a number of Queensland Humboldtians who joined our dinner for the first time, such as Manfred Jurgensen and Bernard Carroll, and with 26 people were a decent crowd keeping the bar tender busy re-filling our beer glasses. It was a most enjoyable gathering and I would like to thank everyone who attended for making it a great success.
