The annual dinner of the ACT branch of the AAvHF to celebrate the 240th birthday of Alexander von Humboldt was held on November 11 in the Scarth Room at University House at the Australian National University. Besides the attendance of 12 of our members, we were delighted to have the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Michael Witter, and the new Head of the Cultural and Science section of the German Embassy Hubertus von Klink as well as their partners as our special guests. Hubertus and his wife had only returned to Canberra from a holiday that evening but made the effort to attend the event to link up with the association to continue the fruitful collaboration we enjoyed with his predecessor Inga Heuser. Both, the Ambassador and Hubertus von Klink highlighted the importance of the good relationship between the AAvHF and the Embassy in their addresses at the function. It was a most enjoyable gathering and I would like to thank everyone who attended for making it a great success.
